The Construction Source

MARCH 2025 “That will be the first home for two individuals that have never had their own place before,” Kathy says. “Now they will have a place to call their own, and it’ll be all brand new. There will be team members that stay on site with them and they will come and go, but these two gentlemen will be able to call this place home for hopefully a very long time to come. Our goal as an agency is to provide them the opportunity to age in place so they will not have to move anywhere.” Both future residents are really looking forward to moving in, Kathy reports – and personally, she’s pretty excited herself. “As a fundraiser, you don’t usually get this close to a project like this,” she says. “The two residents, they’re just incredible gentlemen, and they’re so excited for this and I’m excited for them. This is truly a career accomplishment that I’m extremely proud of and honoured to be part of.” Moving forward, Camphill’s goal is to deliver more individualized housing – as much as they can, Larry stresses, because “we need more homes.” In pursuit of that goal, they are currently working on a conversion of their office building into a twobedroom home, and they are also working on a “fledgling project” with Habitat for Humanity that could ultimately lead to the building of at least four new tiny homes at their farm. Kathy says Camphill Foundation’s focus after completing the bungalow in Barrie will be to raise funds for those capital projects. To make projects like those happen, Camphill is also working hard to maintain and develop key partnerships with industry stakeholders who support their vision. That includes community partners like Habitat for Humanity, other likeminded social services organizations such as the Council on Quality and Leadership, as well as local trade groups and companies like Bulldog Construction. With the support and assistance of those partners, Larry says that Camphill’s longterm vision to expand their model in Ontario, and “to continue creating spaces for persons who have been marginalized through no fault of their own.” RESIDENTIAL I COMMERCIAL I INDUSTRIAL plumbtechplumbing.com Custom homes, renovations, plumbing service & repairs. 705-722-7209 877-577-7209 24 Ferndale Dr. N., Barrie, ON L4N 9V4 Serving Simcoe County, Muskoka and Parry Sound areas.
