all play a vital role in what we do.” Another key part of earning internal loyalty is giving employees the opportunity to grow and advance professionally. That opportunity definitely exists at Prime Movers – in fact, Prime Movers recently had a developer design an app that shows employees exactly how to get to the next level in the company. “Alberta is at the forefront of Canada when it comes to safety in the trades,” Spencer explains. “One of the big things coming down the pipe is employers signing off on the competency of their employees. Let’s take forklift operation, for example. If you are deemed competent, that means not only are you ticketed to run the piece of equipment, but your employer has signed off on your ability to do so – deeming competency.” Prime Movers’ new app includes a list of hundreds of competencies and tracks the competencies achieved by each employee. The app also shows employees the competencies they need to reach the next level in the company, which is both useful and motivating. Spencer believes that app “is going to prove to be a very powerful tool.” Thanks to investments like these, Prime has built strong, lasting relationships with their team members. He and Dan have worked with many of their colleagues for over 15 years, dating back to their previous company. Additionally, the company is growing a young, dynamic team in Edmonton that collaborates closely with the Calgary team. Their goal is to foster similar industry expertise and long-term employee retention in the Edmonton market. Their goal is also to take on more projects that involve “all facets of our business,” Spencer says – everything from initial project planning, to consultation, demolition, offload, storage, transportation, installation, levelling, aligning, et cetera. “We’re trying to find projects we can handle every step of the way,” he concludes. “Those are the projects where we can provide the most value.” JANUARY 2025
