– and he believes that also differentiates the company. “Clients are used to going to see their engineer when they have a problem, and their engineers designs a solution and helps them overcome that problem,” he explains. “With us, obviously, that’s also a big aspect of what we do – but what sets us apart is we’re also going to our clients. We’re constantly trying to educate them. We’re trying to ensure that their assets are protected. We’re trying to ensure that we bring them outside-thebox solutions and new initiatives/incentives they may not be aware of.” “For example, building maintenance is typically left to contractors, but there are a lot of issues right now in the industry with lack of adequate maintenance,” he continues. “So one of the specialty things we do now that is becoming very popular – and apparently we’re one of the few engineers in Ontario that offer this – is we go to our clients and say, ‘Why don’t you bring us on board during those maintenance negotiations?’” TCG’s involvement in that process, Sam explains, comes with a lot of advantages. Mostly, they make sure that expectations are aligned, which can preempt problems and prevent relationships from fracturing if there are issues in the future. “We first create a set of specs so that the contractor will know how to maintain the equipment and what they’re responsible for,” he says. “Then we’ll stay involved during oversight to ensure that the quality of the work remains intact and that the promises made when the contracts were signed are enforced.” FEBRUARY 2025
