include some tenants and families that pay a market rental rate, and others who pay a percentage less than market. A little over half of the homes in the community – 46 of 91 – will be rented at below the average market rent in Edmonton to tenants and families with a qualifying household income. The first of those families are expected to move in Q2 of this year, and substantial completion is expected to be achieved by the end of the year. Jonathon credits the strong pace of the development partly to the calibre of their design and building partners, including Reimagine Architects and Chandos Construction. He says that selecting those partners was a carefully considered process, but he’s very happy with the results. “When we started putting together the application for the project, HomeEd had really limited relationships in the design and construction industry,” he recalls. “One of the first things that we had to do was to go and procure an architect and consultant team that could support the proposal and then ultimately continue on with the work. So we did that in the summer of 2021 through a competitive process.” “We selected Reimagine Architects on the basis of their experience in affordable housing, residential construction, and sustainable design, as well as their expertise in-house with accessibility,” he continues. “All of those things were key components of the FLI grant.” Again, Jonathon reiterates, the choice paid off. “We’re really happy with the project,” he says. “Being able to deliver 91 units on that two-andTHE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE CANADA
