Building a team Parkside North began as a site identified by the Federal Lands Initiative (FLI), which is designed to support the transfer or leasing of surplus federal lands and buildings to eligible applicants. FLI properties are available at discounted or no cost, intended for development or renovation into affordable housing. HomeEd successfully made a proposal for an affordable housing concept on that site and they were awarded the land. In HomeEd’s initial proposal, they identified the opportunity to do about 85 units, but after successfully acquiring the site and working through the design and permitting process, they were able to increase that number to 91 units. Those units include a mix of three-and-four-bedroom family units stacked above one-bedroom ground-oriented accessible suites. As a mixed market housing development, Parkside North will FEBRUARY 2025
