Slimdor Contracting, based in Cochrane, Alberta, is a longstanding leader in the field of utility contracting. Over their 40-plus years in business, they have completed a wide range of work in the commercial, industrial, residential, infrastructure, and industrial markets, and they have gained a depth of experience and experience unrivalled in their region. Today, between their expert team of employees and their network of industry partners, they have the ability to successfully tackle all manner of projects, no matter how large or complex. “Over our many years in business, we have continually expanded our focus and our capabilities,” says Joe Berard, general manager. “We have acquired the people, knowledge, and equipment to meet the needs of any large or small project.” The first iteration of Slimdor, called Slimdor Holdings, was founded in 1978 by Jens Bach and his wife. Jens went by the name ‘Slim’ and his wife’s name was Dorothy – hence the name ‘Slimdor.’ Their first project was the reclamation of the Canmore Coal Mines. Shortly thereafter, they were awarded a major mining contract for Steele Brothers Canada. After that, they were awarded a contract to mine raw materials for Lafarge Canada at their Exshaw cement plant. The quality and productivity Slimdor provided on that project helped them to forge a strong and lasting relationship with Lafarge, and over the next 27 years their contract included the processing and selling of rip rap, maintenance and labour work at the plant as well as several construction projects at the plant site. In 1988, Jens and Dorothy’s son Rich and daughter Nancy purchased the company. Rich was young and ambitious and had a vision of expanding their capabilities, so he changed the name to SEPTEMBER 2024
