Another significant factor, they believe, is their ability to handle the most difficult access and material moving projects on the market. At least in Ontario, they believe they are the best equipped company to handle those challenging projects. “So basically if somebody designs something and they can’t figure out how to build it, we figure out how to build it,” Dave says. “We figure out how to get their material there, how to get their people there,” Kris elaborates. “We are specialists at solving difficult problems.” According to Kris, that specialty is partly a credit to the calibre of their contacts – he says they have “close partners in the crane business,” “partners in the permit business that assist us in getting quick permits,” and “the engineering firms we work with are very, very, good.” At the same time, Kris also believes a lot of the credit belongs at the top, and it especially belongs to Dave: “Here’s the reality, and Dave hates to say it: he is the scaffold and access guru,” Kris says. “He can design anything. He comes up with it in his brain and he tells the engineers what needs to be done and they design it according to the image that he’s got in his head.” Kris, too, provides a lot of valuable experience as an owner – he’s been in construction all his life and he really “knows structure.” As a former superintendent with companies like PCL and EllisDon, he’s also been in the client’s shoes, so he THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE CANADA
