To date, ‘City of Lougheed Phase One’ is one of the largest projects Pitt Meadows has ever completed. Matthew credits their success on the project to the whole project team – within Pitt Meadows, that includes everyone “from the project management to the superintendent levels, to the foremen, to the staff on site.” Externally, Matthew is also quick to share the credit with the client, the general contractor, and all the subcontractors who contributed. Overcoming all the logistical challenges, Matthew adds, also required a lot of evaluating and reevaluating the project at various stages to make sure they were always on track. “We were constantly looking at the project to make sure that we were doing things correctly,” he explains. “That meant constantly rethinking what we were doing and whether it was the right approach, because when something that big gets out of control, it can be very damaging. So for us, we were always watching the project very closely.” Matthew further credits the company’s success to their implementation of technology. In particular, that was the first residential project they ever ran through Status – which is an innovative automation software that enables them to greatly increase production, quality, and precision in their fabrication shop. Moving forward, empowered by their awardrecognized success on that project, and by their growing experience with innovative software like Stratus, Pitt Meadows’ goal is to continue taking on challenging projects of similar size and scope. That means more large multi-family residential projects, more large industrial projects such as water treatment centers, and more institutional projects such as hospitals and jails. They call those projects “mega projects” – and among builders and developers of those mega projects, they want to be known as the mechanical contractor of choice. Lastly, as big as Pitt Meadows Plumbing already is, Matthew believes there is still room to grow, but he doesn’t believe in forcing it. “I think that companies sometimes think that their growth is because of something they did,” he says. “But sometimes growth just happens naturally. That’s how it happened with us – our clients asked us do larger projects, which meant we had to get larger.” “Sometimes people forget how important the market is in the conversation about how big you can get,” he continues. “It’s not always about us and what we want – it’s about what our developers are going to be building, what hospitals are coming up, what industrial projects are coming up. So yes, I believe there’s lots of room for Pitt Meadows Plumbing to grow, but it’s going to be marketdriven growth. I’m excited to see what happens.
