“We have one family where one brother came to work here, then another brother came, then another brother came,” Matthew says. “That happens a lot. We also have people that have gotten married after meeting each other at work here. There’s a lot of that going on as well. I think that shows we have a good environment here, that we’re a place that people want to be.” “Generally speaking, we treat our staff how we want to be treated and we try to help them be the best they can be,” he adds. “As a result, they tend to stay here for a long time.” Furthermore, Pitt Meadows fosters similar loyalty among their suppliers and subcontractors. Matthew personally spends a “tremendous amount of time” fostering those partnerships and making sure they are mutually beneficial. “We’re always making sure that we treat our subtrades and suppliers as fairly as possible, because we want the relationships to be sustainable,” Matthew says. “If you were around the office, you’d hear me talk about sustainability all the time. I’m always asking ‘Is this fair? And is it sustainable going forward?” “As a younger guy in the industry, I recognize that I’m going to be working with the same clients, the same developers, the same engineers, and the same subtrades and suppliers for probably more than 20 years. So for me, it’s important that everybody gets along and everybody makes a living and everything is sustainable moving forward, because there’s such a long runway in front of us.”
