“I just had one employee this morning respond back to me,” Dan says. “We gave him notice that he had completed his thousand hours since his IRATA Rope Access Certification, and his money was being reimbursed for the course. His response was ‘Oh my God, I totally forgot about this. What a nice surprise. Thank you, a lot, I love working at BAT and have a great day.’ We constantly get feedback like that from our people because we believe in looking after them.” BAT Constructions’ relationships with suppliers tend to be similarly strong. Dan calls those relationships “critical.” “We really rely on our suppliers,” he says. “We rely on them to deliver to our clients and get projects done quickly and on short notice – because a lot of the work that we do is on short notice. A lot of it is emergency work and it needs to be done fast, so we need to respond quickly. We couldn’t do that if our suppliers didn’t respond to us quickly.” Fortunately, Dan says, they do have suppliers who respond quickly, and they work with those suppliers closely. Moving forward, his goal is to continue fostering those close relationships, because he knows BAT Construction will need the support of their partners if they want to keep growing – and they do want to keep growing, both in BC and beyond. “We’re building a new shop here at our facility in Kamloops currently,” Dan says. “Come this fall, we’ll have a new building here. We’re also planning on opening an office in Ontario to support our eastern operations.” “We’re growing into a large construction company,” Dan concludes. “We’re implementing many new systems and new software in order to get our operations up to the standards of large construction companies. We’re becoming a major industry player all over the country. It’s an exciting time and we’re excited to see what happens next.” OCTOBER 2024
