Today, BAT Construction’s specialized service offerings include: horizontal drain hole drilling, micropile and anchor drilling, injection grouting, rope access services, full spectrum of geotechnical stabilization systems, remote access construction, slope mesh systems, shotcrete and shoring, blasting and boulder breaking, debris flow mitigation, emergency landslide response, and mine support services. Their project settings are typically mines, railways, and highways. Their average contracts range in value from $500,000 to $2 million. They have the capacity to work almost anywhere in the country, but locally they do a lot of work in areas such as the Fraser Canyon and Rogers Pass – “geotechnically challenging areas,” Dan calls them, the kind of areas a lot of other companies might shy away from. As an example of what their company is capable of, Dan cites a project at a mining site they wrapped up last winter in extreme conditions. There, while collaborating with stakeholders, they installed an 18-inch steel pipeline up 400 meters of vertical highwall. That meant they had to weld together almost half-a-kilometre of pipe, then install specialized anchored winches to hoist pipe up into position on the high wall and then ensure it was secured and fastened all while the crews were working suspended from ropes. “That took quite a bit of innovation and engineering on our guys’ part,” Dan says. “It required a lot of rope access work, and collaboration on the worksite to not impact operations. The conditions overall were very challenging, and the work was very unique. So that was a neat project.” “All our projects are pretty neat ones, for that matter,” he adds. For example, they are currently working in the Village of Zeballos on Vancouver THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE CANADA
