BAT Construction is a recognized leader in the field of slope stabilization and technical stabilization. For over 35 years, they have been taking on projects across Canada, completing them safely, efficiently, and to the highest degree of their clients’ expectations, regardless of complexity or difficulty. According to Dan Sims, Owner and General Manager, that track record is a testament to the calibre of the company’s team. He says their personnel are highly trained, certified, and well-equipped to offer “knowledge, experience, and responsiveness to the most challenging of projects.” “Whether we’re providing services to remote sites, or working in confined spaces, world class open pit mines, or on 300-foot rock face, at BAT Construction, we have a philosophy of providing a team approach with our clients,” Dan says. “This helps ensure we reach the successful completion of any project we are tasked with.” BAT Construction was originally formed in 1988 by Bruce Alexander Thomson, with the company name coming from his initials. He founded the company after observing a need for drilling and stabilization services in the BC Interior. He started off working with mines locally, and then progressed to working with regional railways and highways, performing rock scaling and basic stabilization work. Over time, the company grew and progressed into providing more in-depth and specialized services. After Bruce passed away in 2007, the company was taken over by his business partner Len, who continued to lead it for another 16 years. For his part, Dan personally started working with the company as a subcontractor in 2014, then came aboard as Operations Manager late in 2018. In October last year, he took ownership of the company with his cousin Robert Sims (BASc, EIT) as his business partner. OCTOBER 2024
