S&H Docks and Lifts is a company that sells, services, and manufactures docks, boat lifts, and marine rails for clients in Manitoba’s cottage country. The company has been in business for over 30 years, and was started after the Manitoba government flooded the region when they started their dam projects. That flooding spurred demand for a removable dock system, and S&H was created to meet that need. In recent years, under the leadership of owner Marc Bilodeau, the company has experienced a surge in growth, powered by their investment in new technologies and innovation. Marc and his wife Nicole took over S&H in 2019. Prior to that, Marc was in steel fabrication, working through two apprenticeships – industrial welding and industrial mechanics. Not long after, he was tasked with managing the fabrication component for one of the larger construction companies in the province. “This was a time when safety in construction was coming under the spotlight and I was involved with implementing this at Sperling Industries,” says Marc. “I was also in charge of managing CWB certifications and overseeing welding operations in the plant. My crew of 10-to-20 ran two shifts, building everything from bridges to slaughterhouses in Canada, US and Australia. I was exposed to a completely diversified spectrum of construction.” In 2018, Marc and his wife Nicole, who had a career working with the community’s senior population, decided to start on a new path. They pulled up roots and relocated where they live now, on the edge of the Canadian Shield in beautiful Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba, the heart of cottage country. Numerous rivers and lakes, provincial parks and proximity to Winnipeg make Lac du Bonnet a prime location for S&H’s product and services. OCTOBER 2024
