The Construction Source

Benchmark Building and Renovations is a home renovation company based in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Over the past seven years, they have not only delivered a long list of successful home remodels, renovations, and additions for satisfied clients – they have a built a reputation, one based on transparency, professionalism, and quality workmanship. Brothers and co-owners Mark and Kent Small have always understood that it’s not only the end result of a home renovation that matters – they know the client’s experience matters just as much, so they have strived to make sure that experience is a positive one every step of the way. “At Benchmark, we live and breathe home renovations,” Kent says, “and we recognize that a home renovation of any kind is a big deal. Because of this, we strive for excellence in not only our on-site work, but our off-site duties as well. Communication, respect and honesty are all aspects of the experience we hold to a high standard.” Benchmark was originally founded by Mark Small alone. As a Red Seal carpenter, Mark had operated for years in the residential construction industry, at first locally in Fredericton and then overseas in new Zealand. Missing home, he returned to Fredericton in 2018 and decided to take the step into business ownership. Kent, having a business degree from University of New Brunswick, joined him a year later. For a while, it was just the two of them doing small projects such as kitchen backsplashes and decks, but the business grew quickly based off of word of mouth and referrals. Today, Benchmark has a direct crew of seven and they can handle projects of varying size and value – “anything from a two-to-three-day job to a fourto-five-month job,” Kent says. In terms of contract value, he says they’ll do smaller jobs starting at NOVEMBER 2024
