NOVEMBER 2024 management aspects of the company. Prior to teaming up and forming Breakwater, Dave and Reid were doing a lot of work away that required them to spend weeks away from home. One of the big reasons they wanted to run their own company was to spend less time away from family. Initially, they focused mainly on engineering and design and their focus was single-family, multi-unit residential, and small commercial projects. As the company grew they naturally started providing more construction management services at the request of their clients. Soon enough that became a big part of what they do. “Getting into construction management and general contracting was a big transition for us,” Dave recalls. “It brought on a lot more responsibility, it increased our visibility in the local industry, and it certainly has made us a lot busier.” “Now when a client comes through our door, we can take their project from cradle-to-grave,” he adds. “That’s what a lot of our clients want. They want one point of contact. They want one company to look after the design and engineering and they want the same company to make sure their building is constructed as per the design, or at least the design intent.” These days, most of Breakwater’s projects take place in and around the city of Miramichi, though Dave says they are willing to venture anywhere within the province of New Brunswick.
