Our repeat business is huge. Some people just need an electrician once every five years, and that’s fine, – we want to be that guy. Some people need an electrician every three months – we want to be that guy as well. Some people need electrician on staff full time – of course, we want to be that guy, too. And for some clients, we are that guy. We have a couple clients that we service 50-to-60 per month.” Some of the company’s client relationships, Cam says, go all the way back to day one, when Cam first started flipping through the phonebook and sending letters to contractors and real estate agents. That’s the advertising he did back in the beginning. He estimates he sent about 330 letters addressed to names he found in the phonebook. He says 15 people called back, he met with about half of them in person, and three or four of those people he still works with today, over 13 years later. Some of Camco’s employees are almost equally longstanding. The first employee Cam ever hired, actually, is still with the company today, now working in a management role. “I’m proud of that and proud of him,” Cam says. “Out of our crew, I would say probably over half of them started their career as an electrician at Camco Electric and are still here. Employee retention is a major focus and a large part of our company. Everything we do is a team effort.” “Our goal is to always retain our employees because at the end of the day, we’re nothing without them,” he continues. “We try to invest in them as well. All of our employees receive a pension plan. They get benefits, they get travel insurance. And we pay top dollar for our guys. Employee retention is so important. If your guys come to work every day and they’re happy, how can you not end up hitting home runs? “
