The Construction Source

James Brothers Construction is a First Nation-owned civil construction company that provides high quality construction services throughout British Columbia and Alberta. Their expert team – led by founders Alfred James, Kyle John-James, and Colin John-James – is among the most well-trained and best-equipped in the region, with a proven track record of outperforming competitors and delivering results that exceed client expectations. According to Alfred, they are a company set apart not just by their Indigenous ownership, but also by the capabilities of their team: “We heavily invest in our employees,” he says. “We invest in their training. We make sure they have a wide range of certificates and tickets and qualifications. That makes us very versatile and adaptable.” Alfred has personally been in the building industry almost all his life, as growing up he used to build houses with his uncle. Later, after several years working professionally as a mason, he saw an opportunity for the Shxwowhamel First Nation to create a company to help tackle some of the major infrastructure projects that were due to take place within their territory. He approached council with the idea, they were enthusiastic, and in 2015 he helped establish Shxwowhamel Ventures – which quickly evolved into one the most diversified nation-owned construction companies in British Columbia. Alfred worked there for many years in a leadership role. More recently, Alfred’s son Kyle saw a similar opportunity on the horizon with the thenupcoming Trans Mountain Expansion Project. He approached Alfred and asked for help launching a company that could take advantage of that opportunity, and together they formed James Brothers Construction. MAY 2024
