The Construction Source

Then there’s Total R Inc. – they are a division of Silvercode and have been providing SWMW with metal building insulation for many years. Francis describes that relationship as “very strong,” and says SWMW uses Total R as a preferred vendor because of their expertise when it comes to metal buildings and their understanding of how metal buildings are constructed. SWMW not only works with suppliers but also with design professionals, including companies such as BCB Engineering, Sigma Rho Squared Engineering, Mountain Ridge Engineering, CWC Consulting, FWBA Architects – Lethbridge, FWBA Architects – Medicine Hat, and Ian Moxon Architect Ltd. What most of SWMW’s partners have in common is their locality – they are almost all based out of Western Canada, as giving back to their community is extremely important to the team at SWMW. “At SWMW we are extremely proud to be a locally owned and operated business that has been part of the construction industry for over forty years,” Francis says. “It has always been and will continue to be of utmost importance to us that we make positive and meaningful contributions, especially in the communities in which we live, work, and play.” “We strive to strengthen our communities by building partnerships and working relationships with local non-profits and service-based organizations through charitable donations and volunteer work,” he adds. “We are grateful for the opportunity to help make dreams become reality and to make our communities even better.” Another thing that’s extremely important to the team at SWMW is getting better – and they understand that to get better, they need to listen to new perspectives and adopt new technology. “SWMW embraces cross-cultural differences among employees. We seek out internationally experienced employees to bring different political, economic, and cultural backgrounds to the company. We work closely with places like Lethbridge College to provide us with international students so we can provide them an opportunity to find employment opportunities in Alberta. SWMW realizes that the company must become more technologically advanced and be willing to hire younger employees who have the expertise and knowledge to operate the technology if we are to continue to be competitive.” Speaking of the future, SWMW also has a strong belief in sustainability and is committed to adopting green building technology. “We understand that more emphasis will be placed on these types of buildings in the future, and we are educating ourselves and advocating for more efficient building technology when talking to clients and design teams.” In addition to building strong relationships with industry bodies, SWMW also builds strong and lasting relationships with suppliers and subcontractors. For example, SMWW has been a Behlen Industries dealer since 1980 and has featured their frameless steel building systems and rigid frame building systems on numerous projects over the lifetime of this important relationship. Behlen buildings are used in commercial and industrial applications. Behlen is located out of Brandon, Manitoba and therefore they understand the Western Canadian construction environment.
