A history of success Fred Keck, owner of Southwest Steel and Midwest Steel, first gained interest in constructing buildings at a young age while working in the lumber business back in Brandon, Manitoba. He later moved on to B.B. Steel Buildings, where he was introduced to steel buildings. After a few years, Fred knew that steel buildings were for him and decided to relocate to Medicine Hat, Alberta. It was in Medicine Hat where he, along with his partner, decided to start Midwest Steel Products Ltd. in 1980. Midwest Steel started out servicing the agricultural market by providing high-quality farm-building solutions. As a direct result of that success, Midwest Steel grew quickly and expanded into the commercial and industrial markets. In 1983, Fred and his team decided to expand operations further and opened a new location in Lethbridge. The Lethbridge operations were MAY 2024
