across British Columbia and Alberta.” He says there are a lot of those projects coming up, and “we will be keeping our eye on them.” Most importantly, Alfred says they are going to keep investing in their employees and giving them the training and resources they need in order to perform to the best of their ability. Again, he says that the company recognizes that their team is the main driver of their success: “Our team in the field represents James Brothers Construction,” he says. “Their work is a reflection of the company. So we want to make sure they have everything they need to do the best work they can. That means we pay them well. We invest in their training. We make sure they are comfortable in what they are doing. We make sure everyone goes home safely at the end of their shift. In return, they work really hard for us.” As an example of that hard work in action, Alfred concludes by citing a job they did late last year in Houston. They initially sent six guys, four of whom were dedicated to making sandbags. In four-and-a-half days, those four employees made 6,000 bags of sand. In comparison, a different group on that site made about 9,000 bags in six weeks and another group made 2,000 in two weeks. “We got there and our four workers outperformed everybody,” Alfred says. “The clients saw that and they asked ‘Do you have more workers like this? Can you send us more?’ We ended up sending more, but they were only there for a short period of time because they finished the job so quickly. The client ended up shutting down quite a bit earlier than they expected because our crew got there and outperformed everybody in the area. Now they want us back in the springtime.” “That shows what our team is capable of,” Alfred concludes. “It shows what can happen when you create the kind of team environment we have here.” MAY 2024
