THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE CANADA huge thrill out of it.” Peter trained at Université de Montréal School of Architecture, then at Yale, where he received a Master’s degree in Environmental Design. He has spent over 25 years as a thinker and designer of cities, public spaces and landscapes. He first formed his own firm in 2001 under the name Urban Soland. Fannie, also trained at the Université de Montréal School of Architecture, has been designing urban spaces for over 20 years, thanks to her multifaceted expertise on urban design, landscape architecture and architecture. She and Peter worked together for a long time before co-founding civiliti in 2015, cementing their longstanding collaboration. In the years since, civiliti has focused almost entirely on the design and planning of urban landscapes and public spaces, but within that niche they have done a surprisingly wide variety of projects. The list includes street projects, park projects, public studies, biodiversity master plans, municipal hubs, foot bridges, railway bridges, and more. In the beginning, those projects were smaller, and mostly on the “periphery of downtown.” Over time, however, their work got larger, more public, and has “migrated” to the center of downtown. According to Peter, that migration is one of the main ways the firm has grown and evolved. Of course, the firm has also evolved in terms of reputation and renown. Fannie credits that evolution partly to their award recognition, but also to their ability to connect with clients and establish strong communication.
