residential towers, to facilities for companies like Magna Automotive and ArcelorMittal Dofasco. Recently, they worked on the ArcelorMittal Dofasco steel mill in Hamilton – which is one of the largest such plants in Canada, and also one of the most environmentally-conscious. Over the past eight years, Nexstar has also worked very frequently with Realstar, their largest nationwide multi-residential client. Over the last eight years, Nexstar has installed several thousand LED light fixtures in their buildings. Realstar was their first client to implement smartdimming LED lighting in 2016. These days, Nexstar also deals with a lot of automotive parts manufacturers on projects in the 200-to-1,000-fixtures range. In that sector, their clients include Magna, Simcoe Parts and Honda. The Magna job at their facility west of Toronto was completed at the end of 2023, involving 230 high bay fixtures with each bay being 600 square feet in size, totalling 150,000 square feet. “The energy manager there really liked the results on energy savings and the improved quality of the work environment,” says Bob. “A month after we finished, he sent a note out to 15 other Magna facilities in the area inviting them out to the site to see how the control system is working. As a result, we have five other Magna sites that look like they’re going to move forward. That goes to show how if you do a good job people appreciate it and refer you on.” Nexstar is licensed as engineers and electrical contractors in Ontario, but they also do a lot of work elsewhere in Canada in collaboration with other locally-licensed partners.
