owners, he credits that employee loyalty partly to their uniquely personal service – “our property managers feel ownership of their work, which they enjoy, and which I think is different to what they might experience anywhere else.” Furthermore, Ken says they give their property managers freedom – “we don’t really micromanage here,” he says. “Everyone knows their job, and everybody is free to kind of look at things from their own perspective and put their own touch on it.” “Of course, we have some very specific policies and procedures in place,” he adds, “but at the same time people are free to exercise their own autonomy in certain situations. I think that’s really what keeps everybody happy.” “We also value our employees’ perspectives,” he continues. “We have continuous meetings on different items and case scenarios. We work through those scenarios, and we value everybody’s feedback – and we implement their feedback. Sometimes that’s easy to do, because everyone unanimously agrees. Sometimes it’s challenging because people are split, but we have an open dialogue, we talk it out, and we try to find a consensus. I think our people appreciate that.
