The Construction Source

experience – and Hamilton Fine Homebuilding is very longstanding, with a lot of experience. Clark says that experience is particularly valued by their higher-end clients, the kind who hire them to build homes with values in the several millions. “We get called to do a lot of these unique homes because of our reputation,” he says. “We get a lot of repeat business and some very exclusive clients.” James agrees, saying “People get a good feeling with us. We tend to rate in the top four or five local builders.” The employees and contractors involved with Hamilton Fine Homebuilding also feel the positive vibe of their corporate culture. Some of these relationships have been cultivated over the entire 40-to-50 years Clark has been in business. For example, one of Clark’s superintendents had his own business for 50 years. He worked in competition with Clark for decades, and now works with the company directly. “Over the past couple years he had trouble finding good employees,” Clark explains. “We were very busy and needed help to stay on top of everything. We had a meeting, and he chose to fold his company into ours.” The company also has another superintendent who is highly experienced. Having those two to help guide the company has been very valuable, in Clark’s opinion. “They help steer the ship,” he says. “They take great care and appreciate the detail required from us.” To this day, however, Clark still takes a lead position in his projects. His primary function is to go to the sites and lay out the project from beginning to end. From the start, he says “everything has to make sense to me or it doesn’t happen.” That passion, he adds, is shared by the other members of the team. Clark and James make sure of that by hiring capable people who embrace the Hamilton values – they have to be good at what they do, they have to be conscientious and hardworking, and they have to care about quality. “Our guys know that we care and they go to the extra effort to make sure that it’s right. When things aren’t right, they stand out and it’s not acceptable if it isn’t good enough.” Clark says. “The job must be completed and done properly with an eye to the aesthetics. We go the extra mile every time.” According to Clark, the company’s suppliers and subcontractors are similarly dedicated – and Hamilton Fine Homebuilding rewards that dedication with prompt payment, repeat business, and referrals. “They give us the best service. We support them and always send our customers to them.” “We stick pretty close with our subtrades,” adds James. “They enjoy working with us and they treat us well. It’s important that the trades we hire are accountable. We make sure they deal with the little things because these things can become big problems if not dealt with as soon as possible.” JULY 2024
