he needed a way to make better money. He chose to phase out the band and ramp up Little Star. “The company started to sprout wings. I’ve always had to have a creative outlet, and building a business was very creative. It was a great handoff from creating music to creating a business,” he says. “I was inspired by other successful entrepreneurs. I read lots of books and worked on creating a brand and building it up.” At first, the company focused heavily on insurance claim work. “There’s a lot of fire and flood repair work with the restoration companies in Vancouver, but it’s not very rewarding,” he says. “I used that work to build up a customer base and grow. Now we have customers who have called us back multiple times.” Although Little Star’s jobs got bigger and more fun, Jobie says the company was hemorrhaging money. He restructured the business eight years ago and now focuses on design and project management. These days, Little Star’s bread and butter projects are kitchens and bathrooms, which they work on regularly. “We capture anything under a new build, from $40,000 up to a $1 million full house renovation,” says Jobie. Geographically, most of their work is in North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Downtown, Shaughnessy, East Vancouver, Burnaby, and surrounding areas. Recently, the company has taken a “not-so-little” step forward with their recent expansion into the Comox Valley region on Vancouver Island. DECEMBER 2024
