Little Star Renovations is a Vancouver-based home renovations company dedicated to turning clients’ dreams into realities. When founder and owner Jobie Mallett started the company 18 years ago, his vision was to build a brand that delivers “an outstanding customer experience, creative and thoughtful design, and wins clients for life.” Since then, he has successfully built that brand, as evidenced by the company’s longevity and overwhelmingly positive customer reviews on platforms such as HomeStars and Google. The key to that success, Jobie believes, has been keeping the company small and their customer service personal, like their name implies. “The name was chosen because I didn’t want to be Big Star,” he says. “Our team is genuine and down to earth. I’ve seen larger contractors almost push their clients’ ideas aside and try to tell them what to do. We try to be a company that listens. We respect clients who have budget restrictions. All that bunched in together has been why people choose Little Star.” Jobie started his business 17 years ago when he was a touring musician. Born in the UK, he moved to Canada at age 21. “Construction had always been my fallback,” he says. “I started a band called Whitfield when I was in my mid-20s, and all four members had a construction background, so we did construction when we weren’t touring. I started Little Star Renovations using our tour van as our work van. My bass player was my carpenter, my drummer was my drywall guy and my lead guitar player was a labourer. We worked out of a tiny workshop in the back of my basement, still hoping the band would take off. All the energy I now put into Little Star I then put into music.” Jobie soon realized with his family commitments DECEMBER 2024
