construction. Early on in his new career, Andrei never imagined owning a renovation business, but he quickly realized that he really enjoyed the work. He threw himself into learning the ins and outs of building. He shadowed a plasterer for a while, working 80 hours a week after his day job was over, and when that plasterer moved to Calgary, he passed his clients on to him. He then got a job at a local commercial builder, who found his resume online and called him out of the blue. In that role, he ended up working with Toyota, under a supervisor who liked him so much he insisted he stayed on even when he was scheduled to move to other sites. In 2001, with that supervisor’s encouragement, Andrei opened his own company, with Toyota being his first client. Soon after forming SOSNA, Andrei started pursuing residential renovations, as those jobs were his true passion. He started off doing both – commercial and residential – but he became quickly disillusioned with the commercial sector. Once the residential side of the business was busy enough, Andrei made it his sole focus, and it has remained the sole focus of the company ever since. “We design and renovate homes,” Andrei says. “This is our specialty. We don’t do anything else. We don’t do commercial work or renovate restaurants or offices. We don’t build new homes. We only renovate existing homes, and we only work with very specific people. We are laser focused on what we do.” These days, SOSNA projects will typically range in DECEMBER 2024
