forward and find ways to build safer and more efficiently. Justin also seeks to foster the same attitude in employees. He recognizes that other people might see things that he doesn’t – even people who are less experienced. “Sometimes the best ideas can come from the weirdest places,” he says. “Even a new hire that has no experience will sometimes see something a little bit differently than the guy who has done it every day for the last 30 years. Sometimes it’s a new perspective that makes all the difference. That’s why we really foster open communication and inclusion.” In the future, Justin and his team also want to keep doing their part to better the reputation of their local building industry. Justin recognizes that there are some “bad actors” in their sector, but he wants to prove that you can grow and be successful as a builder while still operating ethically and with the utmost concern for safety. “There are some great companies in our marketplace, but there are some very shady ones as well,” he says. “We want to try to do our best to try to shine a light on the well-run companies that really follow the rules and operate ethically and transparently. We want to celebrate the good companies. We want to show that you do things the right way and make money. You don’t have to mistreat people. You don’t have to beat your subs up for profit. You can have a robust safety program. We want new companies to come up to understand that these things are important and they are part of longevity.” AUGUST 2024
