In those early years, he worked frequently for industry leaders such as Clark Builders, Delnor, and Jen Col, and he was involved in the construction of many of the industrial shops in Grande Prairie and Clairmont. “After a while, we just started getting more and more scope added to our projects,” Justin recalls. “We started doing more general carpentry stuff, various framing and structure builds. Then we started to do a little bit more general contracting and taking on whole buildings. We just kept growing in size and doing better and better.” Today, JMS Construction takes on a variety of projects ranging widely in size and scope. According to Justin, they’ll do anything from a bathroom renovation to a large-span metal and steel bridge. In terms of value, most of their projects are valued between $2-to-$3 million, but they can go a lot higher – their largest ongoing project, for example, is valued at about $5.5 million. “We love to do anything and everything,” says Nichole Staffen – Justin’s wife, as well as an interior designer and project manager with the company. “We’re not afraid to try something new. We have quite a young employee base and everyone is always excited to break new ground and do new things.” Nichole has a diploma in Interior Design from Lasalle College Vancouver. She and Justin got together in 2010, and she joined JMS Construction couple years later to help with the administration. She now oversees the residential division of the AUGUST 2024
