“we’re pretty happy where we stand right now and how things work.” “I don’t think we have the ambition to become the biggest company out there,” he says. “The size we have right now is actually pretty nice. We can have a pretty good balance between work and life. And our customers are very happy with us, which is the most important thing to us. We never want to grow to the point where our customer service suffers and our customers start to feel like we’re not giving them the proper focus and attention. That will always be our number one priority.” Recently, however, Richard and Steffen did launch a second company, which will be focused on developing boarding homes on the Eastern Shore. In the remote town of Goldboro, for example, they bought three boarding homes a few years ago, which they have since renovated and started renting out successfully. Despite being remote, that town has had some business activity in recent years – there was a proposed LNG project, there’s ongoing gold exploration, and there’s now a multi-billion dollar wind turbine projects. A couple weeks ago, another building there went up for sale – an old school gym, which has also served as a post office and community centre. Richard and Steffen purchased that building and are now in the process of converting it into more boarding homes. That’s a second business they see a lot of potential in moving forward. AUGUST 2024
