definitely something that sets us apart in this area. We hear a lot of horror stories of customers being ripped off and totally overpaying and having bad experiences with developers around here – but that’s not what we’re about. We’re set up here for the long-term.” “And because it’s a rural area that we live in, we get to know our customers really well,” he adds. “We’re friends with most of our customers, at least the ones that come on a yearly basis. Because we’re that close, we don’t want to experience any kind of bad blood – and we don’t.” Water and View Estates also enjoys close-knit relationships with a number of reliable home builders and local contractors – contractors who share their values and who similarly value their local reputations. The company shares those contacts with their customers in order to help them realize their dream home on time and on budget. Those contacts are extremely valuable, Steffen stresses, because in a lot of cases they are with companies the customer wouldn’t hear of otherwise, because they’re so busy and only accept work through referrals. “In this rural setting of Nova Scotia, it’s important to know who to work with,” Steffen says. “You don’t want to have to do a cold search. You want to know where to look. It’s important to have the right contacts, and that’s something really valuable we can offer our clients.” According to Steffen, many of the company’s relationships with local partners go back decades. They have been working with one excavation contractor, for example, ever since Steffen first came to the province in 1999. Other partners they have been working with almost as long. In a lot of cases, Steffen says they are working family businesses on the second or third generation, and Water and View Estates has been working with them long enough to see the business passed down.
