Another key commitment of Cormorant is to the environment. When moving out into remote areas, Cormorant works with their customers to ensure that their goals around greenhouse reductions are met, says Fiona. “Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) is a big part of what we do here. To reduce greenhouse gas emissions and have a robust ESG, strategy power plays a big part in that, and Ontario electrification is a huge driver in that transformation.” Damian believes that there is a significant amount to be spent on power infrastructure in Ontario over the next few years. The electrification of major infrastructure components is driving the demand for electricity and that demand is driving new and innovative technology either in the renewable space or the battery storage space, he says. As well, the adoption of electric vehicles is growing the demand for electricity in the province, with an expected 30 billion dollars spent in new power infrastructure over the next five years. “Upgrades to current infrastructure is what we’re focussed on,” says Damian. “We’re uniquely positioned as a power solutions company to work with our customers – mainly utility customers and large industrial customers – in helping them through that transition from a construction and services perspective. We cover the entire life cycle of power system infrastructure.” Regarding these projects, the future looks promising for Cormorant. They recently built the Hydro One Lakeshore transformer stations, one of the largest that Hydro One has undertaken in the last 25 years, and the single largest program Hydro One had sourced out.
