of different culture. There are slightly different safety rules. There’s a bit of a different way of doing business. We recognized that. We didn’t want to be an Alberta company working in BC. We wanted to be a BC company. So we really decided to entrench ourselves here.” Today, in BC and elsewhere, Park Derochie provides turnkey shop and field services specializing in tank exteriors and linings, secondary containment, UHP water-jetting, bridges, structural steel, lead / asbestos abatement, corrosion under insulation, metalizing, pipe coating, underground pipe and water towers. They are field-only in BC, but their shop facilities in Alberta are extensive, environmentallyprotected, and heated to accommodate piping and structural steel for fireproofing and coatings projects. They are also designed for flexibility, allowing the company to allocate space to react to shifts in workload and priorities as required. Between their various offices, Park Derochie also has an extensive fleet of equipment and a roster of hundreds of talented and dedicated employees. According to Ryan, access to that equipment and personnel has played a key role in powering the company’s growth in BC. “One of the advantages we have on this LNG project, for example, is they need a great amount of manpower,” he explains. “When it comes to painters, specifically, they need more painters than there are painters working in the province. What we’ve been able to do is leverage our connections in Alberta, in Ontario, and in Atlantic Canada APRIL 2024
