These days, Apchin Design + Build exclusively provides clients with a design-build service – they never do just design or just construction, they are always involved with their jobs from the beginning to the end. Many of their projects are lakeshore homes valued from $4 million to $10 million. On every project they do, they tend to invest a lot of time and effort into the details – they usually produce up to 100 pages of detail drawings per project. Because they spend so much time on each job, they gravitate towards homes where they get to be creative, and they purposely limit themselves to working on two or three homes at any one time. “If we wanted to, we could grow this company by a lot,” Denis says. “There are a lot of highend homes being built here. We only do a small fraction of them. We could do more – but I don’t see the point in doing that if it means I can’t give the level of detail I want to give.” “Our clients expect the best finished product,” he adds. “To get to the best finished product, you have to spend a lot of time on it. That’s what we do. We spend a lot of time on our projects in order to achieve the best possible result.” Since they only take on a limited number of projects, Apchin Design + Build is in the fortunate position to be selective about the projects they take on and the clients they work with. Denis says one of the things they look for is a challenging lot: “The more challenging the lot, the more creative the solution has to be,” he says. “For example, we once did a luxury ski chalet at Big White.
