“We hire for fit,” he says. “Of course, we’re absolutely looking for technical knowledge and qualifications. We’re doing reference checks. We’re looking for experience because millwrighting is such a deep and technical field. But we don’t just hire someone because they’re experienced. We hire people who know how to have conversations with customers and understand how to prioritize and value those relationships.” Along with relationship building and solid communication, establishing business processes within the organization is another factor in quality control that Munsoor has undertaken. “When I took over the business, there were no documented processes,” he explains. Over the years he has created a comprehensive process manual that includes procedures for things like purchasing, invoicing, safety, and work order management. Additionally, he recently invested in new software to replace an antiquated system and to digitize many of the existing paperbased processes. “We’re always looking to make improvements. In order to do that, we have to know what we are doing and how we are doing it. We have documented all our business workflows so that we have something we can refer to when we consider changes. You need to know all your business requirements so that you can target your efforts and avoid mistakes,” he explains. THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE CANADA
