You work an hour; you get paid for an hour. You are not really building an asset other than your reputation.” Munsoor says his search for a business to buy was based on some important criteria. “Number one, it needed be a proven existing business. Number two; it should be one that could be a platform for additional growth or expansion. The third was that I should be able to afford it. This might seem obvious, but when you buy an elephant, you have to feed it. And, lastly, I should have reasonable confidence that I will be able to run it.” After researching various opportunities, his search led him to Quality Millwright & Machine Services, a company with a 25-year track record in the industry. The owner was a millwright by trade and was retiring. Even though he isn’t formally trained as a millwright, Munsoor believes his work and life experience primed him to succeed with exactly this type of opportunity. Along with acquiring the assets of the business and its customer list, the company’s two fulltime employees also came with the deal. One was a ticketed red seal journeyman millwright (still employed by QMMS), and the other was an unticketed millwright, who Munsoor described as “a highly competent person who knew the trade, he’d been working in it for a long time but wasn’t trained formally as a millwright.” For Munsoor, running a millwright business wasn’t a totally foreign concept. “I understand machines.
