Doing what we’re good at Currently, D&L is upgrading their concrete shop. According to David, the rising price of resin has raised the demand for concrete as an alternative, and “we’re trying to keep up with that demand.” Relatedly, he says they are also investing heavily in modernizing and automating their manufacturing processes, and they are doing that for the same reason – to keep up with demand, which has fortunately remained pretty high over the years. “Even throughout the pandemic, we kept very busy.” Alex says. “Being in sewer and water, we were an essential service, and there were a lot of people spending money. For the past five years, we’ve had a consistent growth rate. We’ve gotten busier and busier.” Moving forward, he says the goal is essentially “to keep doing what we’re good at.” He says they will keep improving their processes and they will consider new opportunities if they arise, but “unless someone gets a really good idea and it’s easy implemented into our existing manufacturing process, then diversification into other products is probably not in our near future.” At the same time, the company is interested in getting bigger and expanding their reach – particularly in eastern Canada. With their sister plant in Saskatchewan up and running they feel they have the capacity to service those markets and they are excited about building a similar reputation in Ontario as they have in Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
