department, he accepted, and he ended up moving out there and staying four years. In that time, he earned a lot of valuable experience and expertise and made a lot of valuable contacts. From there, Alex ended up getting the opportunity to work with Tim Stone of Kelly & Stone Architects, a firm known for their really high-end work on distinctive homes in coastal and mountain environments. Alex worked with Tim on a project in Kentucky, and then moved to Steamboat Springs, Colorado to work in the Kelly & Stone office there for a year. He then spent a few months in their satellite office near Lake Tahoe in Truckee, California. “That experience exposed me to super high-end luxurious design,” he recalls. “They had super highend affluent clients. I really learned what good design looked like. I learned how to recognize it. I learned how to design it. I would call Tim Stone one of my mentors; he’s a big part of how I got to where I am today. He recognized the talent and skill that I had and he really pushed me.” After acquiring that vital experience, Alex moved back to Canada in 2016 – specifically, he moved to Muskoka, Ontario, which was a market that he saw as similar to Lake Tahoe. In Port Carling, he rented his first office and he re-launched FDA in earnest. Almost immediately after that, he recalls, “I got thrown into a bunch of large-scale projects similar to what I had been doing out west.” In the eight years since, FDA has grown steadily in terms of size and capability, and they have left an indelible mark on numerous projects – not just in Muskoka, but all across Canada, and even beyond. Over time, they have extended their creative influence to various international locations, including the United States and Turks and Caicos. These days, FDA’s design capabilities are not constrained by geographic boundaries; they are poised to undertake projects of any size in locations across the globe. Their expertise extends to projects of varying scales, ranging from modest undertakings like a ‘bunkie’ – a small cabin for extra space on a cottage or home property – to full-scale developments encompassing a cottage, boathouse, bunkie, garage, and sports court. Their team is proficient in managing projects of considerable magnitude and distinction and welcomes projects of any size and challenge. THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE CANADA
