Foreshew Design Associates (FDA) is a multidisciplinary design firm that offers clients the complete range of design services. From their office in Port Carling, Ontario, their talented and diverse team of designers contributes to a wide range of projects, including some large-scale ones, located both locally and abroad. That team – led by CEO and principal designer Alex Foreshew – is committed to both excellence in design and to meeting the unique needs of their clients. By combining his team’s construction expertise with personal service and attention to detail, Alex is confident they can always create “something amazing for our clients.” “Our team is aware that each project retained brings with it a unique challenge,” Alex says. “This opportunity allows us to create compelling architectural, interior and structural design solutions that result in aesthetically pleasing spaces for our clients to enjoy.” Alex has personally been interested in architecture for most of his life. His father was a civil engineer who drew residential homes on the side, and Alex grew up fascinated by his drawings. He initially intended to follow in his dad’s footsteps as a civil engineer, but in college he quickly discovered that wasn’t the field for him, and he moved into architecture. He first formed FDA in 2010, while he was still in the Architecture – Construction Engineering Technology program at Conestoga College. He did his first jobs on the side while attending school. Early in his career, Alex had an affinity for heavy timber frame construction and an interest in integrating heavy timber frames into home design. While in school, he sought out opportunities with heavy timber frame manufacturers, and he found one with a company based in Golden, British Columbia. That company offered him the opportunity to come and start their design APRIL 2024
