Our company is unique just like our clients: we appreciate everyone has different needs, budgets and ideas and we are able to accommodate it all. We are dedicated to providing top notch quality service and products.” The Fence Store was created in the year 2000 by founder Gary Soroka, and initially operated solely as a retail outlet for residential clients looking for top quality fencing materials. As the years progressed, they naturally transitioned into providing installation. Brian joined the company about 16 years ago to help Gary run the company. When Gary started looking at retirement about seven years ago, Brian stepped in and took over. In the years since, The Fence Store has grown “quite a bit” in terms of both sales and employees. They now employ roughly 16 people during their busy season, and their yearly sales total is more than twice what it was when Brian first became president. In the coming years, Brian expects the company to continue growing, and he also expects to continue adding more equipment and employees, enabling them to do “bigger and more custom projects.” These days, Brian estimates that roughly 90 per cent of the company’s work takes place in the industrial and commercial sectors, while about 10 per cent of their work is residential. Their main clients include tier-1 contractors such as PCL, EllisDon, Chandos, and Cana. They also deal with developers such as Remington Developments and Jaymen, as well as public entities including Alberta Health Services and Calgary Transit. According to Brian, those highNOVEMBER 2023
