using components manufactured from expanded polystyrene (EPS). The forms are stacked, steel-reinforced, and then filled with concrete. The benefits are numerous: ICF foundations offer more controlled and consistent insulation from cold and moisture, they are stronger and more durable over time, and they are more energy efficient than poured foundations Up to Kode was able to build their first floor-to-roof ICF house in 2012, and they haven’t built another conventional house since. Today, they consider their company to be Central Alberta’s leading ICF contractor. They service both the commercial and residential sectors, providing building solutions ranging from tenant improvements and renovations to design builds and new construction. On the commercial side, Up to Kode has completed a variety of projects. For example, they once renovated a 4,500-squarefoot physical therapy clinic and added an elevator. They also once took a 14,000-square-foot pre-engineered steel building and worked with two owners to turn it into an organic grocery store, with some commercial space, a new elevator, and four apartment buildings on the second floor. They have also done some franchise stores, including a couple Freshii stores in Red Deer. More recently – just last year, in fact – Up to Kode completed a 4,500-squarefoot office building for GATX. They are particularly proud of that building to due to its energy performance, as they incorporated the Nudura XR35, an ICF block with a really high R-Value. MAY 2023
