“We’ve heard from the trades after us,” he continues. “They were saying ‘This is awesome, it’s really easy to work with, because everything is square, level, and plum.” Moving forward, those are the kind of technically-complex projects that Frank + Co wants to do more of. Frank believes they have a team that is uniquely suited to solving challenges, and they are excited when they get jobs that require them to flex those muscles. Beyond that, Frank says the company doesn’t necessarily intend to grow in terms of size, but they do intend to grow in terms of the responsibility they take on. They already started doing some project management last year, and they want to do more of that in the future. “We’re really happy at our current size,” he explains. “That’s not to say there’s not some potential for growth in the future, but right now our focus is on getting our systems and processes right, and on acquiring some higher-end project management jobs. Last year we stepped into the project management ring and we did a fairly sizable renovation, and that was great for the company. We want to do more of that. I think that’s what the next three years holds for us.” “Then within the next five years, we’d like to have a more permanent yard space,” he adds. “We’re also interested in potentially opening up a specialty shop space dedicated to architectural and design details that can be crafted inhouse as part of our deliverables package. That’s a service that we think would be embraced by clients, because there’s not really another company that does that in our area yet. We’d love to be the first.” Lastly, Frank says they want to continue taking on apprentices and teaching carpentry – which “is kind of a dying art at a high level,” in his opinion. “I want to keep the art alive,” he concludes. “That’s really important to me personally. I grew up doing it and I care about it a lot. I want to do my part to pass it on to the next generation.” JUNE 2023
