between our team on-site and our team in the shop. If something needs to be made and shipped out, that happens immediately.” Justin further credits that agility to the company’s size, their culture, and their embrace of technology: “We can adapt and change on a dime,” he says. “Whether we need to change a product, make a modification, change a tooling, whatever else – we have the ability to do that, because we’re still small enough and we’re not very corporate. We’re able to push decisions through very fast. We’re able to change things for the better.” “We’re also innovative on technology,” he adds. “For example, we leverage virtual reality. We design our buildings and we actually check them in an immersive state. We put a headset on and walk through the building in a virtual reality, checking for any discrepancies, clashes, things that don’t work – which is actually pretty incredible.” CMB also utilizes virtual reality as a sales tool – they can send prospective clients a virtual reality model of their building and walk them through it before they make a purchase. Furthermore, they use virtual reality to provide technical services. They do that by sending headsets to other erectors or end-users. Those headsets are preloaded with the building they are erecting, so if they have any questions or need technical support, the team at CMB can “hop in the virtual reality model with them, walk them around, and show them exactly how it goes together,” Justin explains. “Essentially we can be on any virtual job site anywhere in the world at any time without having to hop on a plane and send a guy. That’s a big advantage.” JUNE 2023
