Today, S.J.Lawrence continues to take on a wide variety of projects. They continue to be particularly active in the seniors living sector – they have done about 30 of those projects over the years – and they are becoming more active in the mid-rise residential and longterm-care sectors – they are currently working on three long-term-care buildings now. According to Brandon, the company likes to take on projects “that will present new challenges and obstacles to overcome.” Those projects tend to be large-scale ones, as well as projects with “mixed-use occupancies.” “We love designing for people,” Brandon explains. “We love figuring out the needs of the people who are going to be living in or using the space, and then coming up with design solutions that will enhance their everyday life or experience.” S.J.Lawrence also likes to work with clients they have already worked with before – and Brandon says they have historically been very successful at building those kinds of repeat relationships. “We’ve built a lot of trust with a lot of developers, contractors, and different owner groups,” he says. “We get a lot of repeat business from word of mouth. We’ve been very fortunate in that we’ve never really had to promote or advertise the firm.” Brandon credits that loyalty to the kind of personal relationships they form with clients. He believes that comes from the simple act of listening: “We truly listen to what they want,” he says. “We don’t make assumptions. We listen to them. We figure out what their goals are, what their vision is, and then we do our best to achieve it.” Shawn further credits the company’s experience and track record. He says they are now on “project 1,100”, or close to it. “So we certainly have a body of work to point to,” he says. “That gives our clients the confidence that whatever it is they need, we can do it.” THE CONSTRUCTION SOURCE CANADA
