Ottawa. In forming S.J.Lawrence Architect Incorporated, his intention from the start was to do a diverse range of work – the firm’s first project was the design of a new school, and they followed that up with a retirement living project along with some residential work. “The goal was never to be a huge firm,” Shawn recalls,” and when you’re a small firm, you have to be diversified. You have to be able to take on the projects that your clients want you to do.” In 2008, Shawn’s daughter Amanda Lawrence joined the firm, making it a two-generation family business. Amanda has a Master of Architecture degree from Carleton University as well as extensive experience in project conception, design, and development. Throughout her and career, she has been recognized for her achievements with various honours, including a Cyril Leadership Award and a Stantec Architecture Prize for Excellence. In 2014, another Lawrence joined the company in the form of Shawn’s son Brandon. Brandon is an OAAlicensed architect with broad experience in design and in the development of construction documents for diverse building types. Brandon’s professional work ethic and attention to detail ensure that every project he works on runs efficiently and is executed with precision. Prior to joining S.J.Lawrence, he graduated with a Master of Architecture and a Bachelor of Architectural Studies from Carleton University, where he was the recipient of the school’s prestigious ‘James W. Strutt Memorial Award’ in Geometric Form & Function. JULY 2023
