“We were very fortunate to get an established group that worked for a big apartment company and have a tremendous track record with a lot of very good trade relationships,” he says. “We want to create a corporate culture, that’s extremely important to us. This development manager and construction manager they’re bringing to the table a very strong corporate culture so we’re basically merging with them. We’ve already got a good start on that, and we want to keep building on that. Recruiting good people is very, very important.” Turning to the future of NAI Advent, Harvey says, “We want to grow at a comfortable pace. Everybody knows that if you try to grow too fast, you can get yourself into trouble, so we won’t do that.” He says the future of the company centers on rental apartments in the better areas of Calgary. “It could be from 100 units to 300 units. Ideally, it’s a project or two annually. That’s typically what a lot of developers do. They just keep rolling them over. They want to keep all of their staff, suppliers, and trades busy. As long as there’s demand for apartments, we’ll keep doing it.” “We think we’re on the start of a cycle, we’re one or one and a half years into the start of a cycle. That cycle could last six or eight years. We foresee a good long runway to build a lot of buildings.” DECEMBER 2023
