Jannatech Technologies was originally founded in the late 1990s, and at first operated in the paging industry. Shortly after forming, the company moved into the two-way radio business and became a communications company. Then one day, one of their salespeople visited a prospective client at an industrial site and found the client had a need for a combined radio-and-headlight. That salesperson soon after conceived and invented the company’s original Johnny Light radio cap lamp – and he later went on to become the owner of Jannatec Technologies. In the years since, Jannatec has evolved from a communications company to a researcher, designer, and manufacturer of industrial safety and communications products. They now have their own manufacturing facility in Sudbury. From there, they manufacture their products in an OEM relationship with Motorola, who they have been aligned with for 20-plus years, and then distribute them across the globe. Rey, for his part, has been with Jannatec for roughly 10 years now. Prior to joining the company, he came from a deep background in robotics and electronics. That experience has proven to be very valuable, as he has a lot of experience with IoT – and Johnny Light was the first IoT device of its kind, before even IoT became a mainstream topic within the industry. These days, Jannatec’s products can provide a wide range of safety and communications functions. Those functions can include proximity detection, collision avoidance, Bluetooth communications, water detection, radar blind spot DECEMBER 2023
