“We have a reputation in this industry for getting jobs done for clients,” he says. “We’re known for solving challenges. We’re known for exceeding client expectations. I think that has a lot to do with why clients choose us.” Of course, clients also care about price, Greg says, and Schouten works hard to keep their costs competitive. They do that by partly by using a younger fleet of equipment, which minimizes maintenance costs. They also maintain strong and lasting relationships with their subcontractors and suppliers, and they believe the strength of those relationships is reflected in the pricing they receive. “We have great relationships with our core subcontractors and vendors,” Greg says. “There are a lot we’ve been working with ever since I started. We like working with them and they like working with us, and they provide us with competitive pricing.” Another thing that clients like about working with Schouten is their ability to provide a wider range of services than most construction companies. For example, if a developer client has a property with an existing building, Schouten is able to help them with the demolition of that building, and then they can also provide excavation and earthworks services in preparation for the new building they are developing on the site.
