Dan came from a background in electrical automation. He established his first business venture, Debrule Electrical Automation, in 2010. In 2016, he was contracted by Meerholz to assist with overhead crane troubleshooting, installation, and repairs. He found that he “really enjoyed the work,” as it was challenging and required a lot of problem solving, which he liked doing. In 2018, when the previous owners were ready to retire, he initiated a business purchase, sealing the deal in 2020. In the two years since, both of Dan’s businesses have continued to expand rapidly. In the case of Meerholz, they have grown from a single person in the office and a single technician to six technicians and six people in the office. They are currently looking to add to that count, too, they just want to make sure they are filling those positions with the right people. The company’s geographic reach has also expanded. Today, their services span all of Northern BC and into Northern Alberta and the Yukon. Some of the communities they travel to include Quesnel, Williams Lake, Vanderhoof, Smithers, Terrace, Mackenzie, Chetwynd and Dawson Creek. The company’s willing and readiness to travel has also allowed them to work with clients in Whitehorse and other more remote communities. “When a client in a specific area requires an inspection or repairs done, we often contact our other clients in the area and see if they need anything as well,” Dan says. “This allows us to cut the travel cost among those needing work done, and we can pass those savings on to OCTOBER 2022
