shifted their focus into northern Canada and began operations in Whitehorse, Yukon, where Ben grew up. They did their first residential installations there in 2015. Danny also grew up in Whitehorse, where he knew Ben as a kid. He joined Solvest early on, when they were operating out of a small trailer. He witnessed the company quickly grow from those humble beginnings into “the knowledge and industry leader in PV solar in the North.” “Our operations have drastically expanded and grown since those first installations in 2015,” Danny says. “It’s been quite a ride, for sure.” Over the years, Solvest’s organization has grown dramatically, and they now employ over 60 people. The company has also branched off two sister companies: High Latitude Energy Consulting, which focuses on the feasibility and consulting work for microgrid solar projects; along with Cold Acre Food Systems, which produces fresh produce for northern Canada and builds custom-fabricated hydroponic facilities. Solvest has also developed a deployable, scalable power solution called the “PowerBox.” Powerboxes are custom designed to meet the power requirements of remote locations such as exploration and mining camps, cultural camps, and other operations typically powered by diesel generators. Geographically, Solvest operates in the Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut, and is looking into expansion into Alaska and other Canadian provinces.
